Kangana Ranaut Was an Atheist in Childhood, Reveals What Drew Her to Hinduism

Kangana Ranaut
Bollywood actress Kangana Ranaut, known for her fearless persona and outspoken views, celebrates her birthday on March 23. Her journey from the hills of Himachal Pradesh to becoming one of the most influential figures in Mumbai’s film industry has been marked not just by struggles, but also by a remarkable ideological evolution.

Kangana made her Bollywood debut in 2006 with the film Gangster. Over the years, she has won four National Film Awards, five Filmfare Awards, and was honoured with the Padma Shri. Apart from her acting career, she remains highly active on social media and often grabs headlines for her candid opinions.

The actress frequently shares her views on politics, society, and religion. In a recent post, Kangana revealed that although she now believes in Hinduism, she identified as an atheist during her childhood. This was largely influenced by her grandfather, a well-educated administrative officer, who held atheist views and often engaged in debates about religion and God.

Kangana once shared a post about Kundalini Yoga, describing it as a concept that even atheists find intriguing. Reflecting on her journey, she said that while growing up, she was inclined towards science and did not believe in God.

She explained that her interest in Kundalini became a turning point, drawing her toward Hindu philosophy. According to her, Hinduism offers the freedom to explore and practice various theories, which encouraged her to experiment with different spiritual disciplines. She also mentioned following the teachings and approach of Swami Vivekananda in her yoga journey.

Responding to a user’s question on how she identified as an atheist at a young age, Kangana said it was her grandfather who shaped that belief. She described him as highly intellectual and rational, someone who promoted science and often separated it from religion in his worldview.

Over nearly two decades since her debut, Kangana has established herself as a self-made star, proving that talent can thrive beyond nepotism. In recent years, she has also stepped into politics. In 2024, she was elected as a Member of Parliament from Mandi in Himachal Pradesh, and her lifestyle and public statements continue to draw attention.
