The much-awaited third instalment of the ‘Stree’ franchise is scheduled to arrive in theatres in 2028, producer Dinesh Vijan has announced.

Vijan revealed that director Amar Kaushik has already completed the script for ‘Stree 3’, although the makers are keeping the storyline under wraps for now.

The original ‘Stree’, released in 2018, became a major success and laid the foundation for Vijan's horror-comedy universe. The franchise has since expanded with films including ‘Roohi’, ‘Bhediya’, ‘Munjya’, ‘Stree 2’ and ‘Thamma’.

Amar Kaushik to direct ‘Mahavatar’ first

Before returning to the ‘Stree’ franchise, Kaushik is set to direct ‘Mahavatar’, an upcoming mythological drama based on the story of Bhagwan Parshuram.

The film stars Vicky Kaushal in the lead role.

Speaking on the second day of Ficci Frames, Vijan said, "Amar Kaushik is most integral part of Stree and horror-comedy franchise. He directs our most ambitious film in January end, which is, Bhagwan Parshuram story, called Mahavatar. He finishes that in June and end of next year, we go on floors (for Stree 3)."

The producer added that the team plans to begin filming ‘Stree 3’ towards the end of next year.

‘Everything you’ve loved about it, you will get’

Vijan confirmed that Kaushik has already finished writing the third film but refused to disclose details about the plot.

He suggested that the new instalment would retain the elements audiences have enjoyed in the franchise, while its storyline and ending would offer major surprises.

Vijan also hinted that ‘Stree 3’ could potentially release around Independence Day or Christmas in 2028, although no specific release date has been announced.

He said, "So, Stree 3 arrives in 2028. If I say anything more, he will be upset. He has finished writing it. He thinks I give out too many spoilers but everything you’ve loved about it, you will get it. But where it starts and ends, will be a complete revelation. It might be a nice Independence Day or Christmas present in 2028."

The first two films in the franchise have established ‘Stree’ as one of the key properties in Vijan's interconnected horror-comedy universe, leaving fans eager to see how the story will continue in the third instalment. ALSO READ: ‘This Episode Will Be Fire!’: Internet Reacts as Mira Rajput Joins Kareena Kapoor on What Women Want
