Elon Musk Richer Than Taiwan, Ireland and Israel, Set to Become the World's First Trillionaire After Record-Breaking SpaceX IPO

Elon Musk
Elon Musk is on the verge of becoming the first person in history to amass a fortune exceeding $1 trillion after SpaceX's blockbuster initial public offering (IPO) shattered records in the United States.

According to Reuters, SpaceX raised an unprecedented $75 billion through its IPO on Thursday, making it the largest public offering in U.S. history. The listing is expected to push Musk's net worth beyond $1.1 trillion (approximately $1,100 billion), cementing his position as the world's wealthiest individual by an enormous margin.

Richer Than Many Nations

Musk's fortune now exceeds the gross domestic product (GDP) of several countries, including Taiwan, Ireland, Belgium, Sweden, Israel, and Argentina. The scale of his wealth highlights the extraordinary growth of his technology empire, particularly SpaceX, which has become the dominant contributor to his net worth.

SpaceX, known for its advancements in reusable rockets, satellite internet services, and space exploration technology, is now valued as the crown jewel of Musk's business portfolio. Reports suggest that nearly $866 billion of Musk's wealth is tied directly to his stake in the company.

SpaceX Becomes Musk's Biggest Wealth Generator

Before the IPO, Forbes had estimated Musk's net worth at around $780 billion, already making him the richest person on the planet and placing him comfortably ahead of other billionaires.

The historic SpaceX listing has dramatically widened that gap. Based on company filings and Reuters calculations, Musk's holdings in SpaceX alone account for the majority of his fortune. Combined with his investments in Tesla and other ventures, his net worth is expected to surpass $1.1 trillion once trading begins.

The valuation also includes stock awards and equity compensation that are expected to vest over time.

From Tesla Visionary to Global Influencer

Long before acquiring Twitter (now X) for $44 billion in 2022, Musk had built a global reputation through Tesla and SpaceX. The social media acquisition significantly expanded his influence by giving him a direct platform to communicate with hundreds of millions of users worldwide.

Since then, Musk has become one of the most influential voices on issues ranging from technology and artificial intelligence to immigration, government spending, and free speech.

Political Controversies and Business Challenges

Musk's increasing involvement in politics has also attracted scrutiny. His role in former U.S. President Donald Trump's Department of Government Efficiency became one of the most debated aspects of his public career.

At the same time, Tesla faced challenges in 2025, with weaker sales reported in several international markets. The electric vehicle manufacturer encountered protests and consumer boycotts in some regions, impacting its growth momentum.

A Surprisingly Modest Salary

Despite being the world's richest person, Musk's annual salary remains remarkably small compared to many corporate executives.

SpaceX's IPO filing revealed that Musk receives annual compensation of just $54,080. He also does not draw a regular salary from Tesla, relying instead on stock-based compensation and the appreciation of his company holdings to build his wealth.

With SpaceX's historic market debut, Musk is now closer than ever to achieving a milestone once thought impossible—the world's first trillion-dollar personal fortune.
