Iran war: Trump tells Iranians to make deal or surrender
US President Donald Trump lashed out at Iran, criticizing it for seeking to work directly with Oman on a solution to the backlog in the Strait of Hormuz.
"Iranian Leadership is unbelievably duplicitous! They ask for a meeting, some would say 'beg,' talks begin, with more scheduled in the immediate future, and they say, openly and proudly, that they’re not having any discussions, that nothing is being talked about, and they’re only dealing with 'Oman,'" Trump wrote on his social media platform Truth Social.
The remarks come after Iran announced it was negotiating a joint temporary shipping corridor with Oman.
Trump asserted, however, that the Strait of Hormuz is "already completely controlled by the United States Navy" and the blockade it has imposed on it.
"Nothing gets through to Iran, unless we want it to, and nothing will get through, unless a Deal, or Total Surrender, is accomplished," Trump wrote.
The US president also again vowed that Iran would not obtain a nuclear weapon.
Trump threatens Iran with 'decapitation' if no deal is reached
US President Donald Trump insisted that negotiations with Iran were ongoing, adding that the Islamic Republic was facing a "last chance before decapitation."
Trump told reporters at the White House that he agreed to continue to pursue talks with Iran at the request of Saudi Arabia, the United Arab Emirates, Qatar and other countries.
But Iran's foreign ministry has so far denied that negotiations with Washington were taking place.
"We are talking right now," Trump said.
"This is a last chance for them to sign a good document," the US president added. "I want to give them every last chance before decapitation."
The remarks were similar to last week's threat by Trump that Iran would be hit "very hard," facing potentially with renewed attacks against energy infrastructure. But the US president backed down later, saying the "perimeters" of a deal were there.
Tehran: Iran and Oman plan new route for Strait of Hormuz vessels
Iranian Foreign Ministry spokesman Esmaeil Baghaei said the country is negotiating a joint temporary shipping corridor in the strategically important Strait of Hormuz with Oman.
According to the state news agency IRNA the idea would involve a circular route rather than several separate lanes until a final arrangement was reached.
The announcement comes after US President Donald Trump announced a new round of talks with Iranian representative.
Under the plan, tankers or cargo ships would enter the Strait of Hormuz on a northern route through Iranian territorial waters.
After calling at ports in Iran or in Arab Gulf states, the ships would use a southern route through Omani territorial waters for the return journey.
Cargo vessel 'hit by unknown projectile' off Oman's coast, UKMTO says
The UK Maritime Trade Operations (UKMTO) said it had received a report of an incident off the coast of Oman.
The report, dated Monday but released on Tuesday, said the incident occurred 20 nautical miles northeast of Oman's Al Khasab.
"A cargo vessel has broadcasted on VHF 16 that they have been hit by an unknown projectile," UKMTO said on X, adding that authorities were looking into the incident.
