Ahmedabad Reports First Suspected Ebola Virus Case, Patient Isolated at Civil Hospital

Ahmedabad Ebola case
A suspected case of the deadly Ebola virus has triggered panic and heightened alert in Ahmedabad, with health authorities swiftly launching emergency response measures. The patient, who recently returned from an Ebola-affected African country, has been admitted to a special isolation ward at Ahmedabad Civil Hospital after showing symptoms linked to the virus.

Travel History and Sample Testing Underway

According to official sources from the health department, the patient was screened immediately upon arrival at the airport. After displaying suspected Ebola-related symptoms during preliminary checks, the individual was shifted directly to an isolation facility without coming into contact with others. Blood samples have been sent to a specialized laboratory for detailed testing and confirmation.

11 Co-Passengers Placed Under Home Isolation

As a precautionary measure, health officials traced 11 other passengers who arrived on the same flight from Africa. All of them have been placed under strict home isolation to prevent any possible spread of the virus. Medical teams are monitoring them daily and have instructed them not to leave their homes during the quarantine period.

Tight Screening at Ahmedabad Airport

In view of the global Ebola threat, the Gujarat Health Department has intensified screening procedures for international passengers at Ahmedabad Airport. Special surveillance is being maintained for travelers arriving from African nations. Authorities have advised citizens to immediately contact government hospitals if they experience symptoms such as fever, vomiting, diarrhea, or extreme weakness after returning from abroad.

Special Ebola Wards Activated in Civil and SVP Hospitals

Ahmedabad Civil Hospital has activated a dedicated Ebola ward staffed round-the-clock with specialist doctors and paramedical teams. Additionally, a separate 60-bed quarantine ward has been prepared at SVP Hospital as a precautionary step. Hospital authorities have confirmed the availability of adequate PPE kits, medicines, and safety equipment.

AMC Health Department on High Alert

The Ahmedabad Municipal Corporation (AMC) health department remains on full alert. Intensive monitoring is being carried out for travelers returning from African countries including Uganda, South Sudan, and Congo. Officials stated that no Ebola symptoms have been detected so far among travelers residing in Ahmedabad’s western areas, and none had direct contact with the suspected patient. Despite this, mandatory home isolation has been enforced for arrivals from the identified countries.

Authorities Urge Public Not to Spread Rumors

AMC Chief Health Officer Dr. Bhavin Solanki said that the municipal corporation, Civil Hospital, and airport authorities are working in close coordination as per state government guidelines. Health officials have also appealed to residents not to believe rumors or misleading social media messages and to rely only on official government updates.
