CG Semi Starts Production at Rs.7,500 Crore Sanand Semiconductor Plant; Exports Begin to Japan and Malaysia

CG Semi
Gujarat's Sanand has achieved another significant milestone in India's growing semiconductor ecosystem with the official commencement of commercial production at CG Semi's Rs.7,500 crore OSAT (Outsourced Semiconductor Assembly and Test) facility. The plant has become operational in just five months, making it one of the fastest semiconductor manufacturing projects to begin production in the country.

The rapid rollout is being seen as a major boost to the 'Make in India' and 'Atmanirbhar Bharat' initiatives aimed at strengthening India's domestic electronics and semiconductor manufacturing capabilities.

PM Modi Had Inaugurated the Facility

The state-of-the-art semiconductor plant was inaugurated by Prime Minister Narendra Modi as part of India's push to establish a globally competitive semiconductor manufacturing ecosystem. The project is considered a key milestone in advancing high-tech manufacturing and reducing the country's dependence on imported semiconductor components.

Annual Capacity of 200 Million Chips, Expansion Planned

The Sanand facility currently has the capacity to produce around 200 million semiconductor chips annually. CG Semi has outlined ambitious expansion plans, aiming to increase production capacity to 5 billion chips per year in the coming years to meet rising domestic and international demand.

Chip Exports Begin to Japan and Malaysia

Semiconductor chips manufactured at the facility will be used across the automotive, telecommunications, and consumer electronics sectors. The first batch of chips produced at the plant has already been exported to Japan and Malaysia, marking an important step in India's emergence as a global semiconductor supplier.

Project Expected to Create Over 5,000 Jobs

The semiconductor project is expected to generate more than 5,000 direct and indirect employment opportunities over the next five years. Besides strengthening India's electronics manufacturing sector, the facility is also expected to create high-skilled career opportunities for local youth in advanced manufacturing and semiconductor technology.

Sanand Emerging as India's Semiconductor Hub

Known primarily as an automobile manufacturing centre, Sanand is now rapidly transforming into one of India's leading semiconductor manufacturing hubs. With the commissioning of CG Semi's new facility, Gujarat is further strengthening its position as a major destination for high-tech manufacturing, electronics production, and semiconductor investments.
