Gujarat Government Extends Record Rs. 10,337 Crore Relief to Over 36 Lakh Farmers in 2025-26

The Gujarat government has announced a historic financial relief package for farmers, providing Rs.10,337 crore in assistance to more than 36.74 lakh farmers during the financial year 2025-26. The move comes as farmers across the state continue to face challenges caused by unseasonal rains, excessive rainfall, cyclones, and other extreme weather events in recent years.

Rather than limiting its response to assurances, the state government has directly transferred financial aid to affected farmers, helping them recover from crop losses and rebuild their livelihoods.

Over the past decade, from 2015-16 to 2025-26, the Gujarat government has disbursed a total of Rs.22,733 crore through various agricultural relief packages and assistance schemes, benefiting more than 1.36 crore farmers. For many families impacted by natural disasters, this support has provided not only financial stability but also renewed confidence to continue farming.

Under the leadership of Chief Minister Bhupendra Patel, the state has adopted a technology-driven and transparent system for assessing crop damage after disasters. This modern mechanism has accelerated administrative processes and ensured that relief funds are transferred directly into farmers' bank accounts without the involvement of intermediaries.

One example of the impact of these schemes is Devarajbhai Solanki, a farmer from Adariyana village in Surendranagar district's Dasada taluka. Last year, unseasonal rains destroyed his entire chickpea crop, pushing his family into financial distress. However, an immediate government assistance of Rs.44,000 enabled him to sow crops again and recover from the setback.

The year 2025-26 is expected to be remembered as a landmark year in Gujarat's agricultural history. In response to widespread crop damage caused by heavy rainfall and adverse weather conditions, the government provided a record-breaking Rs.10,337 crore in relief to more than 36.74 lakh farmers in a single year.

Of the total Rs.22,733 crore distributed over the last decade, Rs.15,829 crore was provided under the provisions of the State Disaster Response Fund (SDRF). In addition, the Gujarat government contributed another Rs.6,904 crore from its own budget to support farmers beyond the scope of SDRF guidelines.

While natural disasters remain beyond human control, timely assistance during difficult times is a crucial responsibility of governments. Through its extensive relief measures, the Gujarat government has sought to strengthen the state's farming community and provide a financial safety net that enables farmers to continue agricultural activities with greater confidence and security.
