8 Suspected Jaish-e-Mohammed Terrorists Arrested by Gujarat ATS
The Gujarat Police and Anti-Terrorism Squad (ATS), currently tightening security arrangements for the upcoming Lord Jagannath Rath Yatra scheduled for July 16, have achieved a major breakthrough. In a highly confidential and significant operation, the Gujarat ATS arrested eight suspects allegedly linked to the banned terrorist organization Jaish-e-Mohammed (JeM). By busting this terror module just before the Rath Yatra, security agencies have thwarted a plot to carry out a major untoward incident in the state.
As part of this special counter-terrorism operation, various teams from the Gujarat ATS conducted simultaneous raids across two states while maintaining strict secrecy. The operation was not limited to Gujarat alone; the ATS dismantled the network by simultaneously raiding suspected locations in Gujarat and the neighboring state of Madhya Pradesh. The arrested suspects are aged between 18 and 42 and had been consistently involved in anti-national activities over the past few months.
According to information from sources and the investigating agency, the joint operation led to the detention of suspects from the following locations: three from Palanpur in Gujarat's Banaskantha district, three from the historic town of Siddhpur in Patan district, one from Chikhli in South Gujarat's Navsari district, and one from the Dewas area of ??Madhya Pradesh. Preliminary interrogation revealed that all the accused were allegedly in contact with Pakistani handlers named 'Abdullah' and 'Mohammed Umar' and were working to establish a strong local network for Jaish-e-Mohammed. They were also translating terrorist literature into Gujarati to radicalize the youth.
Investigating officials stated that Jaish-e-Mohammed flags and approximately 254 'jihadi' documents and pieces of literature were recovered from the accused. Cases have been registered against all the arrested individuals under various sections of the Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act (UAPA) and the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS). Currently, security agencies are conducting a forensic examination of their mobile phones, laptops, and other electronic devices to fully uncover their international connections and sources of funding.
