Worship Maa Santoshi on Friday: Know the Rituals, Rules, and Spiritual Significance

Santoshi Maa
In Hindu tradition, Friday is dedicated to Maa Santoshi, the goddess associated with happiness, prosperity, contentment, and peace. Devotees believe that worshipping Santoshi Mata with faith and devotion brings fulfillment of wishes, family harmony, and financial well-being.

While devotees can worship the goddess on any day, Friday holds special significance for her worship. According to religious beliefs, those who observe the 16-Friday Santoshi Mata Vrat with sincerity are blessed with success, prosperity, and the fulfillment of their heartfelt desires.

Santoshi Mata Puja Vidhi

If you wish to worship Maa Santoshi on Friday, follow these simple steps:

1. Take a Vow for the Fast

Wake up early, take a bath, and make a sincere resolution to observe the fast and worship Maa Santoshi.

2. Prepare the Worship Altar

Place a clean red cloth on a wooden platform in the northeast corner of your home or in the prayer room. Install an idol or picture of Maa Santoshi on it.

3. Kalash Installation

Place a vessel filled with water, preferably a copper or earthen pot, before the goddess. Keep a bowl containing jaggery (gur) and roasted gram (chana) on top of or beside the Kalash.

4. Light the Lamp and Incense

Offer a ghee lamp and incense sticks before the goddess while praying for peace and prosperity.

5. Offer Akshat & Roli

Present vermilion (roli), unbroken rice grains (akshat), red flowers, and a red chunari to Maa Santoshi.

6. Read the Vrat Katha and Perform Aarti

Hold a small amount of jaggery and roasted gram in your hands while reading or listening to the Santoshi Mata Vrat Katha. After the story is completed, perform the goddess's aarti.

7. Distribute the Prasad

Distribute the jaggery and roasted gram as prasad among family members and devotees. Sprinkle the Kalash water throughout the house for blessings and pour the remaining water at the base of a Tulsi plant.

Significance of Santoshi Mata Vrat

The very name "Santoshi" symbolizes contentment. Devotees believe that observing this fast helps eliminate greed, dissatisfaction, and negativity while promoting inner peace and emotional balance.

It is also believed that Maa Santoshi removes obstacles related to family disputes, financial hardships, and delays in marriage. Married women often observe this fast for the long life of their husbands, the well-being of their children, and a happy married life.

According to popular belief, the goddess blesses her devotees with patience, satisfaction, and a positive outlook on life. Performing the Friday puja with proper rituals is said to remove obstacles and strengthen one's financial and personal well-being.

Important Rule to Follow

A key tradition associated with the Santoshi Mata fast is avoiding all sour foods. Family members of the person observing the fast should neither consume nor touch sour items such as pickles, lemons, tamarind, or other sour fruits. Devotees should consume only the prasad of jaggery and roasted gram offered to the goddess.
