Avoid Sacrificing Prohibited Animals, Don’t Share Slaughter Photos Online: Jamiat Chief Arshad Madani

Jamiat Chief Arshad Madani
Ahead of Eid-ul-Azha, Maulana Arshad Madani on Tuesday urged Muslims to avoid sacrificing prohibited animals and refrain from sharing photos or videos of animal slaughter on social media platforms.

In a message issued before the festival, the Jamiat Ulama-i-Hind chief said that while animal sacrifice is a religious obligation for eligible Muslims, it should be carried out responsibly and in accordance with the law.

Keeping the current atmosphere in mind, Madani advised the community to exercise caution voluntarily and avoid any form of public display related to animal sacrifice.

“Avoid advertising, especially sharing pictures of slaughtered animals on social media,” Madani said.

He also stressed that Muslims should strictly follow government guidelines during Eid-ul-Azha and avoid the sacrifice of animals prohibited under the law.

Madani further said that if any miscreants attempt to obstruct the sacrifice of permitted animals such as buffaloes, responsible community members should first approach the administration and seek assistance.

“If, however, there is no way to fulfil this religious obligation, then a sacrifice should be offered in a nearby place where there is no difficulty,” he said.

Highlighting the importance of cleanliness during the festival, Madani appealed to Muslims, mosque imams and Jamiat volunteers to actively participate in sanitation drives. He suggested forming volunteer teams to ensure proper disposal of waste generated after the sacrifice.

“The team should actively take part in the campaign to keep their areas clean,” he said, adding, “It must be ensured that no one faces any discomfort or harm by our actions.”

Former Vice President Hamid Ansari had earlier appealed to Muslims not to slaughter cows during Eid-ul-Azha. He also urged the Centre to consider Madani’s suggestion of declaring the cow as the national animal.

According to Ansari, Muslims would not object to such a move and would instead welcome it if it helped stop incidents of mob lynching in the name of cow protection.

Madani also questioned why the government had not declared the cow the national animal despite a large section of the population considering it sacred.

Muslims around the world observe Eid-ul-Azha by sacrificing animals permitted under the laws of their respective countries, commemorating Prophet Ibrahim’s willingness to sacrifice his son Ismael in obedience to God.

Eid-ul-Azha will be celebrated in India on May 28.
