CBI May Recreate Crime Scene in Twisha Sharma Death Case; Husband, Mother-in-law Booked for Dowry Harassment
The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) is considering recreating the crime scene as part of its investigation into the alleged dowry death of Twisha Sharma in Madhya Pradesh. The agency has formally registered an FIR against her husband, Samarth Singh, and mother-in-law, Giribala Singh, over allegations of dowry-related harassment and physical abuse.
According to the FIR, the accused have been booked under Sections 80(2), 85 and 3(5) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS), along with Sections 3 and 4 of the Dowry Prohibition Act.
The FIR states that Twisha married Samarth Singh on December 9, 2025. Soon after the wedding, her family allegedly noticed repeated incidents of harassment linked to dowry demands. The complaint alleges that Twisha faced continuous mental and physical abuse at the hands of her in-laws.

The case intensified after authorities received information about Twisha’s death around 10:20 PM on May 12, 2026. Initial police findings and the post-mortem examination reportedly confirmed death due to “antemortem hanging,” indicating she was alive at the time of hanging.
Investigators, however, also found multiple injury marks on various parts of her body. Medical findings cited in the FIR suggest the injuries may have been caused either by physical assault or a heavy object, raising further suspicion about the circumstances surrounding her death.
Sources said the CBI is now examining whether the sequence of events at the residence aligns with statements made by the accused and witnesses. The agency is also expected to closely analyse forensic and medical evidence while reconstructing the events leading up to Twisha’s death.
Twisha’s family has alleged that demands for additional dowry continued throughout the marriage and accused the in-laws of persistent harassment.
The investigation was handed over to the CBI after the Madhya Pradesh government granted consent under Section 6 of the Delhi Special Police Establishment Act. Subsequently, the Department of Personnel and Training (DoPT) issued a notification on May 25, 2026, authorising the central agency to investigate the case across Madhya Pradesh.
