An incident similar to the Delhi’s Nirbhaya incident has occurred in Rajkot district of Gujarat. A seven-year-old girl was allegedly raped and severely injured by inserting an iron rod into her private parts in a village under the jurisdiction of the Atkot police station. Police have detained the accused, a 35-year-old father of three. The injured girl is undergoing treatment at the Government Children's Hospital in Rajkot and is reported to be in stable condition.According to police, the incident occurred on December 4 while the girl's parents were working in the fields. The accused, Ram Singh, kidnapped the girl and took her to a nearby secluded location. There, he gagged her and raped her. He then allegedly inserted a one-foot iron rod into her private parts, severely injuring her. When the girl's parents searched for her, they found her covered in blood. They immediately rushed her to a nearby hospital, from where she was referred to Rajkot.After the hospital informed the police, 10 teams were formed. CCTV footage from nearby villages and locations was collected and analyzed. Police also examined data from telecom companies to determine how many mobile phones were active in the area where the crime occurred. A list of over 100 suspects was compiled, and all of them were called in for questioning.Rajkot Rural Superintendent of Police (SP) Vijay Singh Gurjar said, We selected 10 people and with the help of a child counselor, a female police officer, and doctors, showed their photographs to the victim. She identified one man, who was detained and interrogated.Gurjar said that during interrogation, the accused confessed to the crime. He tried to sexually assault the girl near a water tank near the farm on December 4 at around 11 am. When he failed, he became angry and brutalized the girl.Initial investigation revealed that Ram Singh, a resident of Alirajpur in Madhya Pradesh, had been working as a farmhand in the Rajkot rural area for the past two years. He is the father of a 12-year-old girl and two boys. The victim's family had come to the village from Dahod to work as farm laborers.Based on the complaint of the victim's father, the police registered a case on Monday night under Section 65(2) of the Indian Penal Code (IPC) and Sections 5(1), 5(M), and 6(1) of the POCSO Act.
