Gurugram Man Found Hanging After Wife Sought Divorce, 7-Year-Old Son Records Video
A 36-year-old employee of a multinational company was found hanging at his residence in Gurugram's Surat Nagar area, allegedly following a dispute with his wife over divorce proceedings, police said on Saturday.
According to investigators, the couple's seven-year-old son recorded a video on a mobile phone after discovering his father hanging. In the footage, the child's mother can allegedly be heard shouting for help and asking someone to bring him down.
The deceased, identified as Sanjeev Yadav, worked as an associate operator at Denso. Originally from Amritsar, he had been living in Gurugram with his family.
Sanjeev's sister, Kiran, alleged that tensions had been escalating between her brother and his wife, Manpreet Kaur. She claimed that Manpreet's decision to seek a divorce pushed Sanjeev into severe emotional distress and eventually led to his death. Following a complaint filed by the family, police detained Manpreet and initiated an investigation into the case.
Investigating officer Mahender Singh said that officials were awaiting the post-mortem report to determine the exact cause of death.
"We are awaiting the post-mortem report to ascertain the exact cause of death. Action will be taken as per the law," Singh said.
Police said Sanjeev was found hanging on Thursday when only his wife and their seven-year-old son were present in the house. Manpreet subsequently informed members of both families about the incident.
According to investigators, the child recorded a video after witnessing the scene. In the footage, Manpreet can allegedly be heard calling for help.
Sanjeev's father, Ramsevak Yadav, alleged that his son and daughter-in-law had been involved in a prolonged dispute. He further claimed that Manpreet and her accomplices might have been involved in the incident.
Kiran also demanded a detailed investigation into the matter, insisting that her brother could not have taken his own life.
She further questioned the circumstances surrounding the incident, claiming that the video was suspicious because Sanjeev weighed more than 100 kilograms.
Sanjeev and Manpreet, who is originally from Ambala, married in April 2018 after meeting while working at Denso. Manpreet left her job after the birth of their son in 2019.
