On Saturday, when the rescue team reached the Sarafa market and brought Mangilal in for questioning, details about his property and sources of income came to light.

Mangilal also owns a car, for which he has employed a personal driver. In addition, he owns three auto-rickshaws, all of which have been rented out.

According to officials, Mangilal’s house in Alwas was allotted by the government with the help of the Red Cross, based on his disability. His family includes his parents and two brothers. Mangilal lives with his parents in the Alwas house, while his brothers live separately in the other properties.

Mangilal, who moves by dragging himself on a wooden cart, claimed that he never forces anyone to give him money and that people donate out of sympathy. He stated that his daily earnings from begging range between Rs 500 and Rs 1,000.
