Mumbai: Hundreds Spend Nights on Versova Beach to Escape Intense Heat; Here's When Rain Will Arrive
A striking scene from India's financial capital has sparked widespread discussion across the country. In a city known for its luxury high-rises and soaring real estate prices, hundreds of residents are reportedly spending their nights sleeping on the sands of Versova Beach in search of relief from unbearable heat and humidity.
Photos and videos circulating on social media platforms, including X and Instagram, show large numbers of people resting along the shoreline after sunset. The visuals highlight the growing discomfort caused by Mumbai's prolonged spell of humid weather, rising temperatures, and power outages in several densely populated neighborhoods.

Why Are People Sleeping on Versova Beach?
According to reports from local media and ANI news agency, many of those seen on the beach are daily wage workers and families living in nearby slum settlements.

Poor Ventilation and Extreme Humidity
Although Mumbai's daytime temperatures have remained around 33–35°C, humidity levels have surged beyond 75–80%, making conditions particularly uncomfortable. In densely packed homes with tin roofs and limited ventilation, indoor temperatures often remain extremely high even after sunset.
Residents say that frequent electricity disruptions worsen the situation, leaving fans and cooling systems unusable during the hottest hours of the night.
Seeking Relief from the Sea Breeze
Locals say the cool breeze from the Arabian Sea offers temporary relief from the suffocating indoor conditions.

"Inside the room, it becomes difficult to breathe. When the power goes out, it feels unbearable. That's why many of us come to Versova Beach in the evening and return home in the morning," said one resident.
The viral images have reignited discussions about Mumbai's overcrowding, infrastructure challenges, and the shortage of affordable, well-ventilated housing for low-income communities.
