Mr Modi said India has been appreciated around the world in its fight against coronavirus and decisive steps like micro-containment and restrictions must be taken immediately to prevent the “emerging second wave”.
“If we don’t act now, there will be a nationwide outbreak,” Mr Modi warned.
The Prime Minister suggested micro-zoning of an area instead of complete lockdown and appealed for increasing daily tests and contact tracing.
He said the positivity rate in Maharashtra and Madhya Pradesh was very high and must be brought down.
Mr Modi’s last interaction with the chief ministers was in early January, just before the commencement of the nationwide Covid-19 vaccination programme.
The Wednesday meeting was not attended by West Bengal CM Mamata Banerjee and Chhattisgarh CM Bhupesh Bhagel. (UNI)
