Rahul Gandhi's 'Idiots' Remark Sparks Uproar in Lok Sabha (VIDEO)
A heated confrontation broke out in the Lok Sabha on Wednesday after Leader of the Opposition Rahul Gandhi used the word "idiots" during a debate on the Public Examinations (Prevention of Unfair Means) Amendment Bill, 2026. The remark triggered strong protests from the Treasury benches, repeated interventions by the Speaker, and eventually led to the House being adjourned until 2:30 pm.
Row Erupts Over 'Idiots' Remark
During his speech on recurring examination paper leaks and the state of the education system, Gandhi referred to a conversation he claimed to have had with an 18-year-old student.
According to Gandhi, the student had classified people into three categories—those who are open to learning, those who believe they know everything and refuse to listen to others, and "andhbhakts." While recounting the conversation, Gandhi said the student described the second category as "idiots" and calls andhbhakts who follows the idiot.

The remark immediately drew loud objections from BJP members, who demanded that the word be removed from the parliamentary record.
Government Demands Remark Be Expunged
Parliamentary Affairs Minister Kiren Rijiju objected to Gandhi's statement, arguing that attributing the remark to a student did not change the fact that Gandhi had spoken the word in the House.
He urged the Chair to expunge the expression, calling it unparliamentary. Treasury bench members backed the demand, leading to noisy exchanges between the ruling party and the Opposition.
Rahul Gandhi Targets RSS, Education System
Despite the interruptions, Gandhi continued his speech, alleging that the ideological influence of the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS) extended across India's education system.
He claimed the issue was larger than Union Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan, alleging that many universities were headed by RSS-backed vice-chancellors. Fresh Allegations Against Amit Shah
The Congress leader also targeted Union Home Minister Amit Shah, alleging that he had avoided facing him in Parliament. Gandhi further claimed that pellet guns had been used against protesting students with the Home Minister's approval.
The allegation prompted an immediate response from the Treasury benches.
Government Seeks Proof or Apology
Kiren Rijiju demanded that Gandhi either provide evidence for his allegations or withdraw them. Senior Union Minister Rajnath Singh also insisted that such serious accusations against the Home Minister should be backed by documentary proof or removed from the House records.
Speaker Appeals for Order
As the exchanges intensified, Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla repeatedly appealed to members to maintain decorum. Addressing Gandhi directly, the Speaker urged him to avoid making serious allegations without evidence and reminded all members to follow parliamentary rules.
Despite repeated appeals from the Chair, the uproar continued, forcing the proceedings to be adjourned until 2:30 pm.

The disruption took place during discussions on the Public Examinations (Prevention of Unfair Means) Amendment Bill, 2026, which aims to strengthen legal measures against examination paper leaks following a series of controversies surrounding competitive exams.
The debate has seen sharp exchanges between the government and the Opposition, with the Congress accusing the Centre of failing to protect the integrity of public examinations, while the government maintains that the proposed legislation will help curb organised examination fraud.
Wednesday's clash further escalated tensions in Parliament, adding another flashpoint to the ongoing political debate over examination reforms, student protests, and the education system.
