Suvendu Adhikari to Be West Bengal’s New CM; Swearing-In Tomorrow

Suvendu Adhikari
Suvendu Adhikari is set to become the new Chief Minister of West Bengal. The BJP legislative party meeting has confirmed his selection, with central observers including Amit Shah and Mohan Manjhi present.

The central Home Minister announced that after the completion of the election process, 8 proposals were received, all supporting Suvendu as the leader of the BJP legislative party in West Bengal.

Suvendu Adhikari defeated incumbent CM Mamata Banerjee in Bhabanipur and has now won from Nandigram for the second consecutive time, having previously defeated Mamata in 2021.

The Bharatiya Janata Party achieved a historic victory in the West Bengal Assembly elections held on May 4, 2026, winning 207 out of 294 seats. The ruling Trinamool Congress was reduced to 80 seats. One remaining seat in Falta will go to re-election on May 21, with results expected on May 24.

Adhikari's oath-taking ceremony will be reportedly held tomorrow at the Brigade Parade Ground in Kolkata. The ceremony will be attended by PM Narendra Modi, Amit Shah, and other senior NDA leaders.
