Karur (Tamil Nadu): In a shocking incident, a Class 12 student of a government higher secondary school was stabbed to death by a man while two others injured following a squabble during a temple festival at Kulithalai in Karur district on Sunday midnight.
Police said here on Monday that the deceased was identified as R.Shyam Sundar (17) of Kulithalai.
A procession was held late on Sunday night as part of the Chithirai festival at Sri Mariyamman Temple.
During the procession, two persons identified as B.Nagendran (22) and K.Logeswaran (21) danced in an obscene manner before the devotees under the influence of liquor.

When Shyam Sundar, his friends R.Vasanth (23) and J.Damodaran (25) asked them to behave in a proper manner, there was a quarrel between them.
In the ensuing wordy quarrel, Nagendran pulled out a knife and stabbed Shyam Sundar multiple times. When his friends came for his rescue, they were also attacked with the knife by Nagendran.

The injured Shyam Sundar, Vasanth and Damodaran were rushed to the Kulithalai government hospital, where the doctors declared Shyam Sundar brought dead.
Damodaran was referred to the Mahatma Gandhi Memorial Government Hospital at Tiruchirapalli for treatment, while Vasanth was treated as out-patient.

Kulithalai police have registered a case and detained four persons in connection with the incident.
