Agartala: A local court in Agartala on Saturday sent a 48-year-old man to three days in police remand for committing repeated rape on a minor girl, who happened to be a close friend of his daughter in Gandhigram of the city under Airport police station.
Police booked the accused, Uttam Valmiki, under the POCSO Act based on the complaint of the victim’s father. According to the report, Valmiki, a driver by profession, had coerced and lured the minor girl, a close friend of his daughter, into a sexual relationship and raped the girl repeatedly for days on end.
Police said that a rickshaw puller, Biplab Debnath, is his closest neighbour in the Gandhigram Sharma para area, and taking advantage of this, Uttam Valmiki established a close relationship with Biplab Debnath and his family, calling the latter’s wife his foster sister.
Biplab’s minor daughter, being a close friend of his daughter, used to make frequent visits to Uttam Valmiki’s house daily, and taking advantage of this, Uttam coerced and lured the girl with bait into establishing a relationship and exploiting her sexually.
The victim told police that Valmiki had also threatened her with the murder of her parents unless she agreed to the carnal relationship and in case she disclosed anything. But two days back, she had developed some health issues and revealed everything to her mother, which led the family to complain.
