Udhayanidhi Stalin taken into police custody over 'vulgar' remarks against actor Trisha, CM Vijay
Tamil Nadu opposition leader Udhayanidhi Stalin was taken into police custody from his residence in Chennai on Tuesday for questioning in connection with controversial remarks he allegedly made during a public meeting in Thanjavur.
The development comes a day after Udhayanidhi addressed a protest organised by the DMK over the long-standing Cauvery water-sharing dispute on August 3.
According to reports, the controversy erupted after sections of the crowd raised the name of actor Trisha Krishnan during the gathering. Udhayanidhi allegedly responded with comments that critics described as offensive and inappropriate.
Apart from a police complaint, the ruling Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam (TVK), led by Tamil Nadu Chief Minister C. What happened at Thanjavur protest?
During the protest meeting in Thanjavur, Udhayanidhi Stalin launched a strong attack on CM Vijay, describing him as an "administratively incompetent dummy chief minister."
He accused the ruling TVK government of focusing more on social media trends, reels and memes than on addressing key issues affecting the state. Udhayanidhi also alleged that the government had remained silent on the Mekedatu project, failed to support Tamil Nadu farmers who were arrested in Maharashtra while travelling to Delhi to participate in a protest, and neglected the concerns of the farming community.
When sections of the crowd reportedly began chanting the name of actor Trisha, Udhayanidhi briefly paused before allegedly saying, "Whether the water reaches anywhere else or not, it should reach there."

Although he later stated that his remark was intended as a reference to the river, video clips of the incident quickly spread across social media platforms, triggering widespread criticism and allegations that the statement was inappropriate and offensive.
