Bollywood actor Riteish Deshmukh on Tuesday issued an emotional response to remarks made by Maharashtra BJP president Ravindra Chavan about his late father, former Chief Minister Vilasrao Deshmukh.
In a video message, the 47-year-old actor said the legacy of leaders who devoted their lives to public service cannot be erased. “With folded hands, I want to say that the names of those who lived for the people are etched in their hearts and minds. The reaction came a day after Chavan made controversial comments suggesting that the memories of the late Congress stalwart would be “wiped out” from his hometown of Latur. Addressing party workers, the BJP leader said that their enthusiasm convinced him that Vilasrao Deshmukh’s memories would fade from the city.
The remarks sparked sharp criticism from the Congress, which accused the BJP of displaying arrogance of power and a lack of understanding of Vilasrao Deshmukh’s enduring legacy. The party said such statements reflected ignorance about the contributions of a leader who played a significant role in Maharashtra’s political and social life.
