Abhishek Sharma Breaks Rohit Sharma's Record With 30-Ball T20I Century
India opener Abhishek Sharma created history on Thursday by smashing a century off just 30 balls in the third and final T20I against Afghanistan, breaking Rohit Sharma's long-standing record for the fastest T20I hundred by an Indian batter.
The left-hander reached the milestone with 10 sixes and nine fours, surpassing Rohit's previous record of a 35-ball century against Sri Lanka in 2017.
Abhishek eventually departed for a stunning 108 off 34 balls, finishing his innings with 11 sixes and nine fours. His knock came at a strike rate of 317.64.
The 30-ball hundred also became the fastest T20I century by a batter representing an ICC Full Member nation. Overall, it is the third-fastest century in men's T20I cricket, behind Estonia's Sahil Chauhan, who scored a 27-ball hundred against Cyprus in 2024, and Turkey's Muhammad Fahad, who reached three figures in 29 balls against Bulgaria in 2025.
Abhishek brought up his century in the ninth over of India's innings. His innings also marked his third T20I century, to go with 12 half-centuries.
Abhishek's Explosive Start
Abhishek took a little time to settle in, hitting his first boundary on the fourth ball of the opening over.
He then shifted gears in the second over, hitting Azmatullah Omarzai for two sixes and a four. The assault intensified against Fazalhaq Farooqi in the following over, when the opener smashed two sixes and two fours from the first four deliveries.
He reached his half-century in only 16 balls. By the end of the powerplay, Abhishek had raced to 76 off 22 deliveries and helped India cross the 100-run mark.
His remarkable innings finally ended in the 10th over when he edged a delivery from Rashid Khan behind.
Abhishek's Previous Fastest T20I Century
Abhishek had previously scored his maiden T20I century against Zimbabwe during India's 2024 series. Before Thursday's innings, his fastest T20I hundred had come against England at Mumbai's Wankhede Stadium.
In that match, he smashed 135 off 54 balls and reached his century in 37 deliveries. That effort had been the second-fastest T20I century by an Indian batter at the time.
His latest performance has now put the 26-year-old at the top of India's fastest T20I century list and third overall in the format.
