IND vs IRE: Ireland Stun T20 World Champions India with 2-0 Series Sweep After Thrilling One-Run Win

Ireland vs India
Ireland pulled off one of the biggest upsets in their cricket history by defeating reigning T20 World Champions India by just one run in the second T20 International at the Civil Service Cricket Club on Sunday. The thrilling victory completed a memorable 2-0 series whitewash over one of the world's strongest T20 sides.

The hosts erupted in celebration after defending their total in a nail-biting finish, sealing what is widely regarded as one of Irish cricket's greatest achievements.

Harry Tector Leads Ireland's Competitive Total

After being put in to bat, Ireland posted a competitive 154/8 in their allotted 20 overs.

Harry Tector anchored the innings with a composed 53 off 47 balls, while Benjamin Calitz provided valuable late acceleration with a quickfire 37 from 23 deliveries. George Dockrell also made an important contribution with 19 runs.

Ireland got off to an aggressive start as Ross Adair smashed two sixes in his 16-run cameo before India struck back through Harshit Rana and Arshdeep Singh to reduce the hosts to 21/2.

Tector then steadied the innings with a 65-run partnership alongside captain Lorcan Tucker before adding another crucial 65-run stand with Calitz, taking Ireland beyond the 100-run mark.

India clawed back in the final overs as Prince Yadav dismissed three batters, including the well-set Tector, to finish with impressive figures of 3/22. Arshdeep Singh and Shivam Dube claimed two wickets each to restrict Ireland to a manageable total.

Ireland Bowlers Rock India's Top Order

India's chase got off to a disastrous start thanks to a sensational opening spell from Jai Moondra.

The left-arm pacer trapped Sanju Samson lbw with the very first ball of the innings before removing Abhishek Sharma for a duck in the same over. He then bowled captain Shreyas Iyer for 10, leaving the visitors reeling at 19/3.

India's problems worsened when Ishan Kishan was run out for 12, putting the defending world champions under immense pressure.

Tilak Varma Fights Lone Battle

Tilak Varma attempted to rescue India with a determined knock of 55 from 46 balls. Axar Patel added 14 before both batters were dismissed by Matthew Hollard, who produced a match-winning spell.

Shivam Dube contributed 20, but Matthew Humphreys removed him at a crucial stage, while Hollard struck again to dismiss Suryansh Shedge as India slipped to 121/8.

Dramatic Finish Ends India's Hopes

Harshit Rana almost scripted an incredible comeback with a blistering 21 off just 10 deliveries, smashing two boundaries and a six to keep India's hopes alive.

However, with India needing seven runs from the final two balls, Harry Tector dismissed Rana to leave the visitors requiring seven off the last delivery.

Prince Yadav launched the final ball over the boundary for six, but it was not enough as India finished on 153/9, falling agonisingly short by a single run.

Historic Series Win for Ireland

Jai Moondra and Matthew Hollard starred with the ball, picking up three wickets each to derail India's chase. Matthew Humphreys and Harry Tector chipped in with one wicket apiece as Ireland successfully defended their total.

The victory completed an extraordinary 2-0 series triumph over the reigning T20 World Champions, marking one of the most significant moments in Irish cricket history. The result also underlined Ireland's growing reputation in the shortest format and served as a reminder of their ability to challenge the world's top teams.
