Jasprit Bumrah Ends Wicketless Drought in Mumbai Indians’ 6th IPL 2026 Match
Jasprit Bumrah finally brought an end to his wicketless run in Mumbai Indians’ sixth match of IPL 2026, snapping a rare dry spell that had drawn attention across the tournament.
The Indian pace spearhead had gone 146 deliveries without a wicket — one of the longest such stretches by a frontline bowler in IPL history. While unusual, data shows that even elite bowlers are not immune to such phases. Names like Bhuvneshwar Kumar and Rashid Khan have also endured spells of over 100 balls without a breakthrough despite their consistency and impact over the years.

Bumrah’s response, however, was immediate and emphatic. He struck with the very first ball of his spell, removing Sai Sudharsan. Delivering a full ball that angled away from the left-hander, Bumrah tempted him into a drive, only to find the edge. The catch was safely taken at point, sending Sudharsan back for a first-ball duck.
Similar patterns are visible in T20 Internationals as well. Bowlers such as Sunil Narine and Adil Rashid have experienced stretches of 90 to 100-plus deliveries without picking up a wicket at different stages of their careers, underlining the demanding nature of the format.
Experts suggest that these dry spells are often tactical rather than a reflection of poor form. Opposition teams tend to play out strike bowlers cautiously, limiting risks and targeting other bowlers instead. Bumrah, known for his precision and control, has frequently been on the receiving end of such strategies.
His breakthrough, therefore, was not just a personal milestone but also a reminder of a broader T20 trend — even the best can go through barren phases before rediscovering their impact.
