RCB vs GT: Royal Challengers Bengaluru Register Second-Biggest Playoff Victory in IPL History
Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) continued their impressive rise as a formidable knockout side in the Indian Premier League, registering a commanding 92-run win over Gujarat Titans in the 2026 playoffs at Dharamsala. The emphatic triumph now stands as the second-largest victory by runs in IPL playoff and knockout history.
Only Rajasthan Royals’ 105-run victory over Delhi Capitals during the inaugural 2008 season at Wankhede Stadium remains ahead of RCB’s latest feat. The result further highlighted Bengaluru’s growing consistency and dominance in pressure matches over recent seasons.
RCB’s success this season has also been powered by an exceptional bowling campaign from Bhuvneshwar Kumar. The veteran pacer finished with 26 wickets, placing him among the franchise’s most successful bowlers in a single IPL edition. He joins an elite list led by Harshal Patel, who claimed 32 wickets in 2021, and Wanindu Hasaranga, who also picked up 26 wickets in 2022. Former RCB bowlers R Vinay Kumar and Yuzvendra Chahal had earlier recorded 23 wickets each in the 2013 and 2015 seasons respectively.
The playoff clash against Gujarat Titans also produced a unique statistic. For the first time in nine meetings between the two teams, the side batting first emerged victorious, underlining the dominance of RCB’s all-round display.
RCB’s march to the final also continues a notable IPL trend of defending champions reaching the summit clash in the following season. Chennai Super Kings achieved the feat in 2010-11, 2011-12 and 2018-19, while Mumbai Indians did so in 2019-20 and Gujarat Titans in 2022-23. RCB have now added their name to that list with consecutive final appearances in 2025 and 2026.

With this latest qualification, RCB now have five IPL final appearances to their name. Only Chennai Super Kings, with 10 finals, and Mumbai Indians, with six, have reached the title clash more often, reflecting Bengaluru’s transformation into one of the league’s most consistent contenders in recent years.
