Senior Pakistan players to be part of ODI series against mighty Aussies
The Pakistan Cricket Board announced a 15-member squad for the upcoming three-match ODI series against Australia national cricket team. Fast bowler Shaheen Shah Afridi will lead the side, which includes the return of several senior players to the ODI setup.
Star players Babar Azam, Shadab Khan, Naseem Shah, Haris Rauf, and Sufiyan Muqeem, who missed the Bangladesh ODIs, have all been included in the squad. However, wicketkeeper-batsman Mohammad Rizwan has been left out after a poor performance in the PSL.
The squad also features three players yet to make their ODI debut — Ahmed Daniyal, Arafat Minhas, and Rohel Nazir — although all three have already represented Pakistan in T20 cricket.
According to the PCB, Usman Khan was not considered for selection due to illness, while Mohammad Ghazi Ghori and Rohel Nazir will serve as the primary wicketkeepers. The Pakistan team will gather in Islamabad on Friday for a training camp ahead of the series.
Meanwhile, Fakhar Zaman and Saim Ayub were also unavailable for selection due to previous injuries and will continue their rehabilitation under the supervision of the PCB medical panel.
Australia is scheduled to arrive in Pakistan on May 23, landing first in Islamabad. The opening ODI will be played in Rawalpindi on May 30, while the remaining two matches will take place in Lahore on June 2 and June 4.
Pakistan and Australia last faced each other in a bilateral ODI series in late 2024, where Pakistan secured a 2-1 series victory — their first ODI series win in Australia in 22 years. Australia last toured Pakistan for an ODI series in 2022, which Pakistan also won 2-1.
Pakistan ODI Squad:Shaheen Shah Afridi (captain), Salman Ali Agha (vice-captain), Abdul Samad, Abrar Ahmed, Ahmed Daniyal, Arafat Minhas, Babar Azam, Haris Rauf, Maaz Sadaqat, Mohammad Ghazi Ghori (wicketkeeper), Rohel Nazir (wicketkeeper), Naseem Shah, Sahibzada Farhan, Shadab Khan, Shamyl Hussain, and Sufiyan Muqeem.
