India’s vice-captain Shubman Gill has been declared fully fit and will rejoin the national side for the upcoming T20 series against South Africa, putting an end to weeks of uncertainty surrounding his injury.Gill sustained a neck injury during the first Test in Kolkata, which ruled him out of the entire Test series as well as the ODI leg. The stiffness caused by the injury required hospitalization for two days and multiple injections. However, after an intensive rehabilitation program at the BCCI’s Center of Excellence (COE), Gill has now been cleared for a complete return to competitive cricket. The COE confirmed that Gill has met all return-to-play (RTP) protocols and is fit for all formats.Speaking after India’s dominant 9-wicket win in Visakhapatnam, head coach Gautam Gambhir praised Gill’s recovery and welcomed his return.“Shubman is fully fit now and has started practicing. His inclusion in the T20 squad is fully deserved,” Gambhir said. With the ODI series done, all doubts regarding Gill’s availability for the T20s have been settled. Most members of India’s T20 squad are set to begin practice from Sunday as preparations intensify for the high-profile contest. Gill’s return gives India a major boost, strengthening both the top order and overall batting firepower. With his fitness restored, the spotlight will now be on the young star as he aims for a strong comeback against a competitive South African lineup.
