Two Historic Golds for India! Boxer Lovlina and Recurve Team Shine at Asian Games

Boxer Lovlina Borgohain
Olympic medallist Lovlina Borgohain ended India's 12-year wait for a women's boxing gold at the Asian Games after defeating China's Ziyi Bao in the 75kg final on Friday.

Lovlina secured a commanding 5-0 unanimous decision over Bao to claim the gold medal and improve on the silver she won at the previous edition. In the earlier final, she had lost to another Chinese boxer, Li Qian.

With this victory, Lovlina became only the second Indian woman after legendary boxer MC Mary Kom to win an Asian Games gold medal in boxing.

Indian Women's Recurve Team Creates History

India also enjoyed a historic day in archery as the women's recurve team delivered a sensational performance under pressure to defeat 10-time Olympic champions South Korea 5-3 and secure their maiden Asian Games gold medal on Friday.

Experienced campaigner Ankita Bhakat, Kirti Sharma and 17-year-old Kumkum Mohod kept their composure in difficult windy conditions, overcoming the defending champions to script a memorable victory.

Kumkum later added another medal to India's tally after teaming up with Dhiraj Bommadevara in the mixed team event.

The Indian pair settled for silver after losing 3-5 to China in the final. The match scores were 34-38, 35-37, 37-36 and 37-37.

The gold medals in boxing and archery added to India's strong showing at the Asian Games, with Lovlina and the women's recurve team producing landmark victories. ALSO READ: ODI World Cup 2027 Schedule OUT: India to Open Campaign Against Australia, Then Face Pakistan on October 10
