'Vaibhav Suryavanshi Is Ready, But...': India Coach Reveals Why Teen Sensation Is Still Waiting for Debut

Vaibhav Sooryavanshi
The question dominating cricket discussions after India’s shock 0-2 T20I series defeat to Ireland is why 15-year-old Vaibhav Suryavanshi was not given a debut opportunity. Despite India fielding a full-strength, World Cup-winning squad, they suffered a humiliating series loss to a relatively weaker Ireland side, raising further debate over team selection and future planning.

Following the conclusion of the series, India assistant coach Ryan ten Doeschate addressed the growing speculation around Suryavanshi’s delayed debut and explained the team management’s reasoning.

“He Is Ready, But…”: Coach Clarifies

Speaking to reporters after the match, Ten Doeschate made it clear that Suryavanshi has the ability to play international cricket, but stressed the importance of patience and process.

“"He (Sooryavanshi) is absolutely ready to play international cricket, there is no doubt about that,” he said.

However, he added that the team management is also focused on maintaining continuity with experienced players who recently delivered success.

“but Sanju Samson is a guy who went a long way to win us the World Cup three months ago. He has got a fairly good IPL, and it is important to give players confidence and message to the players, we want to give guys a long run in the team,” he explained.

The coach emphasized that every player, including Suryavanshi, must go through the same selection process and structure before being introduced into the senior team.

“We are all excited to see Vaibhav play but he has to go through the same process but certainly no question about how good he is,” he added.

Sanju Samson’s Underwhelming Series

India went into the Ireland series backing the opening pair of Abhishek Sharma and Sanju Samson.

While Abhishek showed flashes of brilliance with a 49-run explosive knock in the first T20I, he also fell for a golden duck in the second match.

Sanju Samson, however, struggled throughout the series. He scored just 5 runs in the first T20I in Belfast and was dismissed for a golden duck in the second match, failing to make an impact in either game.

Will Vaibhav Get a Chance in England Tour?

Following the disappointing Ireland tour, India are set to face England in a five-match T20I series starting July 1.

All eyes are now on the team selection for the England tour, with fans eager to see whether Vaibhav Suryavanshi finally gets an opportunity—or continues to wait on the bench despite being labelled “ready” for international cricket.
