56 dead as storm, heavy rain wreak havoc across Uttar Pradesh

Uttar Pradesh storm deaths
At least 56 people were killed after a powerful storm accompanied by heavy rain swept through multiple districts of Uttar Pradesh, uprooting trees and damaging houses, officials said on Thursday.

As per reports from across the state, Prayagraj recorded the highest toll with 17 deaths, followed by Bhadohi (16), Fatehpur (nine), Badaun (five), and Pratapgarh (four). Two deaths each were reported in Chandauli and Kushinagar, while Sonbhadra reported one fatality, officials said.

Expressing grief over the loss of lives, livestock, and property, Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath  conveyed condolences to the bereaved families and directed district officials to reach affected areas and ensure all possible assistance. He warned that any negligence in relief work would not be tolerated.

Adityanath also instructed officials to remain on high alert and ordered the revenue and agriculture departments, along with insurance agencies, to carry out damage assessments promptly. Compensation, he said, should be disbursed without delay once the evaluation is complete.
