Previous Governments Would Have Shut Down UP's Sugar Industry by Now, Says CM Yogi Adityanath
Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath on Saturday launched a sharp attack on previous state governments, accusing them of neglecting development, industrial growth and sugarcane farmers. He claimed that had they remained in power, the state's sugar industry would have collapsed.
Addressing a public gathering at Venkateshwara University in Gajraula, after inaugurating and laying the foundation stone for 43 development projects worth over Rs 207 crore in the Amroha and Dhanaura Assembly constituencies, the Chief Minister highlighted the BJP government's achievements in agriculture, infrastructure and welfare.
'UP's Sugar Industry Has Been Revived'
Yogi said that before 2017, industrial investment, development projects and timely payments to sugarcane farmers were not possible. He alleged that between 2007 and 2017, previous governments shut down 29 sugar mills and sold 21 mills at throwaway prices.
"If those governments were still in power, Uttar Pradesh's sugar industry would have been shut down by now," he said.
Highlighting the BJP government's record, Yogi said the state now has 122 operational sugar mills, while sugarcane farmers have received Rs 3.23 lakh crore in payments. He added that the sugarcane procurement price has been increased to Rs 400 per quintal, and Uttar Pradesh has emerged as India's leading producer of sugar, sugarcane and ethanol.

Focus on Infrastructure and Development
The Chief Minister said Amroha has transformed into a growing economic hub and can no longer be described as a backward district. He credited the One District One Product (ODOP) scheme for giving global recognition to Amroha's tabla and dholak industry and said local mango growers are now reaching international markets.
He also highlighted key infrastructure projects, including the Madhya Ganga Canal Project, the Ganga Expressway, and the proposed industrial park in Hasanpur, saying these initiatives would accelerate economic growth and improve connectivity.
Yogi added that the government is building world-class infrastructure with a vision for the next 50 to 100 years, aiming to create employment opportunities and reduce migration among young people.
Law and Order, Religious Freedom
The Chief Minister also contrasted the current government's law-and-order record with that of previous administrations.
He alleged that before 2017, riots frequently occurred across the state and religious events such as the Kanwar Yatra, Durga Puja, Ram Navami processions and Janmashtami celebrations faced restrictions.

"Security brings good governance, good governance attracts investment, and investment leads to prosperity," he said.
Highlights Welfare Schemes
The Chief Minister listed several welfare initiatives being implemented by the state government, including Kanya Sumangala Yojana, Atal Residential Schools, Kasturba Gandhi Vidyalayas, and a newly announced cashless health insurance scheme of up to Rs 5 lakh annually for teachers.
He also announced enhanced honorariums for Shiksha Mitras and Anudeshaks, along with expanded insurance coverage for teachers, education workers, cooks and farmers under various state schemes.
Appeal to Voters
Yogi urged people to elect representatives who actively pursue development projects and public welfare. He praised local BJP legislators and MPs for regularly presenting development proposals to the state government and assured residents that the "double-engine government" would continue to safeguard their interests and accelerate development across the region.
