UP Voter List 2027: BLOs to Go Door-to-Door as Major Revision Begins in September
The Election Commission is set to undertake the Special Summary Revision (SSR) of electoral rolls in Uttar Pradesh from September, in what will be the final major exercise to update the voter list ahead of the 2027 Assembly elections.
The SSR will follow the recently completed Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of electoral rolls. As part of the exercise, Booth-Level Officers (BLOs) will conduct door-to-door visits to identify voters who need to be added, removed or have their details corrected.
The final electoral roll is expected to be published in January 2027.
SSR to Begin After Reapportionment List
Officials said on Sunday that the SSR is expected to begin after the Central Election Commission releases the reapportionment list later this month. A draft electoral roll will be published at the beginning of the revision process.
During the exercise, BLOs will visit households to identify voters who have permanently shifted, died or are otherwise absent from their registered addresses.
Form 6 will be used to register new voters, while Form 7 will be collected for deletion of names from the electoral roll. Form 8 will be used for corrections in voter details or changes related to constituencies.
The entire process will be carried out in accordance with the Manual on Electoral Rolls-2023. Claims and objections submitted by voters will also be addressed under the provisions of the manual. 30-40 Days Set Aside for Electoral Roll Revision
According to sources, the SSR process is likely to begin in September and will continue for around 30 to 40 days.
Special enrolment campaigns will also be held on Saturdays and Sundays. During these campaigns, BLOs will be available at polling stations with the required forms and electoral rolls to assist voters.
The District Election Officer (DEO) and Electoral Registration Officer (ERO) will monitor the exercise.
Over 13.39 Crore Voters in UP
The final electoral roll following the SIR was published on April 10 and contained more than 13.39 crore voters.
The upcoming SSR will provide voters with an opportunity to check their details and seek additions, deletions or corrections before the 2027 Assembly elections.
UP Assembly Elections Expected on Schedule
The final electoral roll for the previous Uttar Pradesh Assembly elections was published on January 7, 2022. The election schedule was announced the following day, on January 8, while nominations for the first phase began on January 14, 2022.
Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar has previously clarified that the Uttar Pradesh Assembly elections will be held as scheduled.
