Yogi Adityanath Government's Scholarship Scheme Benefits Over 2.7 Million Students; Prayagraj Tops the List

Yogi Adityanath
The Uttar Pradesh government, under the leadership of Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath, continues to strengthen access to education through its scholarship initiatives. The state's Post-Matric Scholarship and Fee Reimbursement Scheme for Other Backward Classes (OBC) has provided financial assistance to millions of students, helping them pursue higher education without the burden of financial constraints.

According to the latest figures for the 2025-26 academic year, more than 2.7 million students across Uttar Pradesh have benefited from the scheme, with Prayagraj emerging as the district with the highest number of scholarship recipients.

Prayagraj Leads in Scholarship Distribution

Prayagraj topped the state by providing scholarships to over 169,000 students, making it the largest beneficiary district under the scheme.

Other districts with significant numbers of beneficiaries include:

Ghazipur: More than 134,000 students
Azamgarh: Over 119,000 students
Jaunpur: More than 115,000 students
Varanasi: Around 88,859 students

The figures highlight the widespread reach of the scholarship program across Uttar Pradesh, particularly among economically weaker sections.

Financial Assistance for School, College, and Professional Courses

The scholarship scheme supports students studying in Class 11 and Class 12, as well as those pursuing undergraduate, postgraduate, technical, and professional education.

Eligible students enrolled in courses such as B.Tech, MBBS, MBA, BA, B.Sc., B.Com, ITI, Polytechnic, and other approved programs can receive financial support under the initiative.

The objective is to ensure that deserving students are not forced to discontinue their education due to financial difficulties.

Girls Receive the Highest Number of Scholarships

The government data shows that female students account for the largest share of beneficiaries.

For Classes 11 and 12, scholarships were awarded to:
  • 472,764 girl students
  • 380,667 boys
  • 2 transgender students
In higher education, the scheme benefited:
  • 1,001,084 female students
  • 931,906 male students
  • 8 transgender students
The data reflects the state's continued emphasis on promoting educational opportunities for girls while ensuring equal access for all eligible students.

Transparent Online Application and Direct Benefit Transfer

To make the process more efficient and transparent, the Uttar Pradesh government has digitized the scholarship system.

Students can submit applications through the state's Scholarship Management System portal, allowing authorities to process applications more quickly.

Once approved, scholarship funds are transferred directly to beneficiaries' bank accounts through the Direct Benefit Transfer (DBT) system, reducing delays and improving transparency.

Eligibility Criteria

The scheme is available to students belonging to eligible categories whose annual family income does not exceed Rs. 2 lakh.

By offering financial assistance for tuition fees and educational expenses, the program aims to reduce the financial burden on low-income families and encourage students to continue higher education.

Government Focused on Expanding Educational Access

According to OBC Welfare Department Director Umesh Pratap Singh, the government's objective is to ensure that no student is deprived of education because of financial hardship.

He said the scholarship scheme is reaching a large number of eligible students across the state and reflects the government's commitment to making education accessible to every deserving learner.

The Post-Matric Scholarship Scheme has become one of Uttar Pradesh's key educational welfare initiatives, providing financial support to millions of students while promoting equal opportunities in higher education.
