Raigad Floods: Nearly 3,000 HPCL LPG Cylinders Swept Into Patalganga River; Public Asked Not to Touch Them (VIDEO)
A dramatic incident unfolded in Maharashtra’s Raigad district as severe flooding caused nearly 3,000 LPG cylinders from an HPCL bottling plant to be washed into the Patalganga River, prompting authorities to issue a public safety alert.
The incident occurred at Hindustan Petroleum Corporation Limited’s (HPCL) LPG bottling facility in Chavane village of Panvel taluka after relentless rainfall caused the Patalganga River to overflow in the Khalapur region.
As per reports, the plant’s protective boundary wall collapsed under the impact of the floodwaters, allowing water to gush into the premises. The strong current then swept away a large number of both filled and empty LPG cylinders into the river.

Raigad District Collector Kishan Jawale has appealed to residents living along the riverbanks not to touch, move, or attempt to take home any gas cylinders found in the river or on its banks.
Authorities warned that the cylinders could be extremely dangerous because their condition is unknown. Since it is unclear whether they still contain gas or have been damaged during the floods, any attempt to handle them could result in a gas leak, fire, or explosion, posing a serious risk to life and property.

Search and recovery operations are currently underway, with teams from the district administration, the Disaster Management Department, and HPCL jointly working to trace and recover the missing cylinders.
Citizens have been advised to maintain a safe distance from any floating or stranded cylinders and immediately report sightings to the police or disaster management authorities. Rescue teams continue to monitor the Patalganga River to prevent any untoward incident.
