The woman, identified as Sukhmaniya and believed to be in her late 50s, was seen walking along a road with her elderly mother-in-law strapped to her back as they made their way to the bank.
According to Sukhmaniya, the monthly pension of Rs 500 had not been received for the past three to four months because the Know Your Customer (KYC) formalities had not been completed.

She said that earlier, a ‘Bank Mitra’ used to visit her home every month to deliver the pension amount, but the service had stopped due to the incomplete documentation process.
Sukhmaniya, a resident of Jangalpara village in the Kunia area, travelled on foot to reach the Central Bank of India branch in Mainpat town.

Mainpat Janpad Panchayat Chief Executive Officer Khushboo Shastri said the pension was last delivered to the elderly woman’s home in January.
“The doorstep pension service was suspended over the past four months because the KYC process remained incomplete,” the official said.

On May 22, Sukhmaniya reportedly reached the bank carrying her mother-in-law without informing local officials. After the KYC verification was completed at the branch, the bank immediately released the pending pension amount of Rs 2,000 covering four months.
Officials said the Central Bank of India branch in Mainpat has seven Bank Mitras who provide doorstep pension services to elderly and physically challenged beneficiaries who are unable to visit the bank themselves.
Authorities also confirmed that from next month onwards, the pension amount will once again be delivered directly to the elderly woman’s home.
