BEWARE! Man ends up in ICU with organ failure after rat bite
A Canadian man was hospitalized with severe bacterial infection after a rat bite.
The 76-year-old man, from Montreal, was bitten by a rat, while trying to remove it from the toilet bowl
He visited to the hospital and got basic wound care and a tetanus shot
But 18 days later, he returned to the hospital, experiencing severe fever, headaches, and abdominal pain
He showed signs of multiple organ failure, kidney damage and sepsis
After various tests, doctors diagnosed him with leptospirosis
Doctors believe that the rat may have had urine in its mouth when it bit the Canadian’s fingers
The man was given treatment including antibiotics and steroids, and was released from the ICU after three days
As per doctors, leptospirosis can even cause death in serious situations
