Google sued after US man drives car off collapsed bridge following Google Map directions

The family of a US man who died after driving off a collapsed bridge while following Google Maps directions sued the technology giant

Philip Paxson, 47, a father of two daughters, was a resident of Hickory, North Carolina

According to the lawsuit, Paxson drowned on Sept 30, 2022 after his car plunged into Snow Creek in Hickory

Paxson was driving home from his daughter’s birthday party on a dark and stormy night through an unfamiliar neighborhood

Google Maps directed him to cross a bridge that had collapsed a decade ago and was never repaired, the lawsuit said

There were no barriers or warning signs along the collapsed bridge

The Paxson family sued the technology giant for negligence

They claimed that Google was aware of the collapse but did not updated its navigation system
