The Central government has issued a strong notice to Meta over the alleged presence of Child Sexual Exploitative and Abuse Material (CSEAM) in paid advertisements on Instagram.

The notice was reportedly served on Saturday evening, directing the social media platform to take immediate action against such content.

Citing sources, PTI report says the Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology (MeitY) has instructed Instagram to disable all advertisements and content that promote or facilitate access to child sexual exploitative and abuse material.

The ministry has also sought a detailed explanation from Meta, asking the company to respond within seven days regarding the measures it has taken to address the issue.

The action follows concerns raised over a recent report highlighting the alleged spread of child sexual abuse material (CSAM) through advertisements on Instagram.

Union IT Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw has reportedly directed MeitY officials to summon Meta and seek accountability over the matter, underscoring the government's zero-tolerance approach toward content involving child sexual exploitation.

The government is expected to closely monitor Meta's response and the platform's compliance with the directives issued by the ministry.
