Gujarat Launches Census Drive; CM Bhupendra Patel Submits Details Online
Gujarat officially launched its census drive on May 17, with Chief Minister Bhupendra Patel, Union Minister C. R. Patil, and state Health Minister Prafull Pansheriya submitting their family details online to mark the beginning of the nationwide exercise.
Citizens across the state will now be able to upload their information themselves through the online self-enumeration portal until May 31. The government has assured people that all personal data collected during the process will remain completely confidential and secure.
The initiative was formally launched from Surat in the presence of senior civic and administrative officials, including the Municipal Commissioner. During the event, Union Minister C.R. Patil stressed the importance of accurate census data, saying government welfare schemes and development policies are designed based on reliable population statistics to ensure benefits reach deserving citizens.
Chief Minister Bhupendra Patel also urged residents to actively participate in the process and provide correct information to help strengthen the vision of a developed and empowered India.
The census process has been divided into two major phases this year. The first phase, online self-enumeration, will continue until May 31. This will be followed by a large-scale door-to-door survey from June 1 to June 30.
To carry out the operation smoothly, nearly 1.10 lakh government employees have been deployed across Gujarat. Officials will visit households throughout the state and digitally collect population-related data.
During the survey, census workers will ask families a total of 33 questions related to household details, family members, and available facilities. The government has also issued a toll-free helpline number — 1855 — along with access to the official census website to assist citizens facing any confusion or difficulties during the process.
