Nepal Flood: 24 Gujaratis Missing, NFSU Team Sent to Identify Victims
Around 24 Gujarati tourists are reportedly missing following the devastating floods and natural disaster in Nepal. A 10-member specialised team from the National Forensic Sciences University (NFSU) in Gandhinagar has been dispatched to Nepal to help scientifically identify victims of the disaster.
The team, led by Dr Bhargav Patel, will travel to the affected areas and assist authorities with forensic identification. NFSU experts also have experience handling forensic cases in collaboration with the US Department of Defense.
24 Gujaratis Out of Contact After Floods
Several Gujarati tourists are believed to have been caught in the floods and landslides in Nepal. Authorities have been working to trace 24 people who remain unaccounted for and have reportedly lost contact with their families.
There was some relief when authorities managed to establish contact with a tourist from Amreli. Officials were informed that the tourist was safe and had also spoken with family members.
Anand Couple Missing During Kailash Mansarovar Journey
Among those reported missing are Anand residents Vimal Patel and his wife, Jaimina Patel.
The couple travelled to Nepal on August 16 through Namaste Nepal Tour and Travels. They subsequently planned to travel from Nepal towards Kailash Mansarovar and were reportedly in the process of obtaining a Chinese visa.
Their last telephone conversation with their family took place on Sunday. Since then, relatives have been unable to contact them.
Search and Rescue Efforts Intensified
Local authorities and the Indian Embassy in Nepal are coordinating efforts to trace the missing Gujarati tourists and provide assistance to those affected by the disaster.
The NFSU team from Gandhinagar will also begin forensic identification work after reaching the affected areas, assisting authorities and families in identifying victims through scientific methods.
