Moscow: Andrea Meza of Mexico has been crowned Miss Universe at the televised event held in Florida, US, on Sunday.Miss India Adaline Castalino made it to the top-5. Fans were hopeful that this time around India could win the title of Miss Universe but she missed it by a whisker.
"The new Miss Universe is Mexico!!!!" the organizers of the pageant said on Twitter.According to Andrea Meja's Instagram account, she is the ambassador of Chihuahua Tourism. That's not all, she works as a software engineer. Meja also owns her self-titled athletic clothing brand Andrea Meja Activewear.
Miss Mexico (Andrea Meza, 26) finished ahead of other finalists, fellow contestants from Myanmar, Brazil, Peru, India and the Dominican Republic.
Russia was represented by Alina Sanko, Miss Russia 2019. The Miss Universe pageant was cancelled in 2020 amid the coronavirus pandemic.South African model Zozibini Tunzi was crowned Miss Universe in 2019.
In the final round of the competition, Andrea was quizzed, how would you have dealt with the Coronavirus epidemic if you had been the leader of the country.
In response, Andrea said, 'I believe that there is no clear-cut formula to handle such a difficult situation. However, I would have put a lockdown before the situation deteriorated so that people's lives would not be ruined. We cannot put people's lives at stake in this way.
