Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Wednesday extended warm greetings to the nation on the occasion of Makar Sankranti, Magh Bihu and Uttarayan, festivals that mark the harvest season and are celebrated across India with diverse regional traditions.

Makar Sankranti signifies the Sun’s transition into the zodiac sign of Capricorn (Makar) and is observed as a mid-winter harvest festival in many parts of the country.

In a post on X, the prime minister said that Sankranti is celebrated across India according to local customs and traditions, and he prayed to Lord Surya for everyone’s happiness, prosperity and good health.

Sharing his wishes on Uttarayan in a separate post, Modi expressed hope that the auspicious festival of Makar Sankranti would fill people’s lives with joy and bless everyone with good health and well-being. He added that the celebration should further strengthen bonds of togetherness while spreading positivity and prosperity.

The prime minister also conveyed greetings on the occasion of Magh Bihu, which is celebrated in Assam and parts of the northeastern region.

Describing Magh Bihu as a festival that celebrates harvest, abundance and togetherness, Modi said he hoped it would bring prosperity, good health and happiness to every household. He added that the spirit of gratitude and harmony associated with the festival should continue to guide the nation towards a brighter and more prosperous future.
