Srinagar: Three militants, an alleged Over Ground Worker (OGW) were killed and a policeman was martyred in an encounter in downtown Srinagar on Wednesday morning, official sources said.
Authorities have ordered the closure of all colleges and schools in the summer capital, Srinagar, where mobile internet has also been suspended as a precautionary measure to prevent spreading of rumours.
They told UNI that following specific information about presence of militants, a joint search operation was launched by Special Operations Group (SOG) of state police, Army and CRPF at Fateh Kadal in downtown Srinagar in the wee hours.
However, when security forces were moving towards a particular area, the militants hiding inside a house fired at them with automatic weapons. The security forces also retaliated, ensuing in an encounter.
''Two militants and an alleged OGW were killed in the exchange of fire,'' they said, adding an SOG jawan was also injured in the encounter. The injured jawan was immediately taken to a hospital, where he was declared brought dead.''The encounter has ended though the operation was still going on as security forces are sanitising the area,'' they added.(UNI)
