Five militants killed by security forces in Shopian encounter

Srinagar:Five militants were killed by security forces in an which ensued during a Cordon and Search Operation (CASO) in south Kashmir district of on Wednesday, official sources said.
Meanwhile, mobile internet service has been suspended in the area to prevent rumours.With these killing a total of 24 militants were killed in different encounters during the past two weeks.
They said Special Operation Group (SOG) of police, (RR) and CRPF launched a joint CASO at village Sugoo in Shopian following a tip off about the presence of militants in the wee hours today.
After sealing all exit points, security forces launched house-to-house search, they said. However, when the troops were moving towards a particular area in the village, militants hiding there opened fire with automatic weapons, source said adding security forces also retaliated and in the ensuing gun fight Five militants were killed.
A police spokesman said the operation was going on when the reports last came in.Meanwhile, additional security forces and police have been deployed in the adjacent areas to prevent any demonstration.(UNI)
