Skipper top-scored for India with 74 before getting run out. He featured in two fifty-plus runs partnerships - an 88-run stand with (42) for the fourth wicket and a 68-run stand with Cheteshwar Paujara (43).
 
From a comfortable 188 for 3, India slumped to 206 for 6 as Kohli, Rahane and Hanuma Vihari (16) got out in quick succession in the last session of the day.
 
Ravi Ashwin and Wriddhiman Saha took the innings to the end of the day, with India to resume their batting on Day 2 from 233/6 in 89 overs.
