Fact Check: Did President Murmu Say She Was Used By PM Modi For Rafale Promotion?
The Press Information Bureau (PIB) Fact Check team on Wednesday exposed an AI-generated video of President Droupadi Murmu being circulated by Pakistani propaganda accounts on social media. The doctored video falsely claims that Prime Minister Narendra Modi is using the President to promote Rafale fighter jets.
In a post shared on social media platform ‘X’ (formerly Twitter), PIB Fact Check clarified:
“Pakistani propaganda accounts are circulating a digitally altered video of President Droupadi Murmu with false claims that Prime Minister Narendra Modi is using her as a prop to elevate Rafale PR.”
False Claims in the Video
The fake AI-generated clip features a voice mimicking President Murmu, alleging that the Modi government blackmailed her into participating in Rafale-related promotions. The fabricated statement in the video says: “I want to tell the citizens that the Modi government blackmailed me and forced me to sit in a Rafale jet. If anything happens to me, PM Modi will be responsible.”
PIB Issues Warning
The PIB Fact Check unit has completely rejected these claims, stating that the President has never made such a statement. It confirmed that the video is AI-generated and intended to mislead the public.
PIB also shared a link to the authentic, unedited video to set the record straight. The agency urged social media users to report such misinformation through official channels and refrain from sharing AI-manipulated content.
