CBFC suggested 26 cuts and title change to 'Padmavati’ makers for release
Mumbai: In a relief for the makers of the controversial 'Padmavati', the Central Board for Film Certification has agreed to give a clearance to the film subject to certain conditions, trade sources said on Saturday.Trade sources said the CBFC, which held a meeting of its examining committee on December 28 to review the film, has agreed to give a 'UA' certificate to the film on three conditions which include the change in the name of the film from 'Padmavati' to 'Padmavat' and putting a disclaimer before the start of the movie and during interval that the film does not glorify the practice of Sati.
The CBFC has also suggested over 26 cuts in the film, including some modifications in the song 'Ghoomar'.The CBFC had appointed a special panel of noted historians to view the film.Considering the complexities and concerns around the film the requirement for a special panel was felt by CBFC to add perspective to the final decision of the CBFC official committee.
The special panel consisted of Mr Arvind Singh from Udaipur, Dr Chandramani Singh and Prof K K Singh of the Jaipur University. Trade sources said the members of the panel expressed reservations regarding the claimed historical events shown in the film. The filmmakers, Bhansali Productions, in a written communication to CBFC had also requested that a panel of historians or academicians and members of the Rajput community view the film. The film has been involved in a controversy with the members of the Rajput community charging the makers with distorting history.Following the controversy, the maker had decided to defer the release of the film from its schedule date of December 1.(UNI)
