Dhurandhar OTT Release Sparks Outrage Over Censorship, Muted Dialogues
Ranveer Singh’s action thriller Dhurandhar has premiered on Netflix after a successful theatrical run, but its OTT debut has triggered strong backlash from viewers over unexpected cuts and muted dialogues.
Released in cinemas in December 2025, the film boasts an ensemble cast featuring Ranveer Singh, R Madhavan, Akshaye Khanna, Sanjay Dutt and Arjun Rampal. The high-octane thriller centres on a sensitive Intelligence Bureau-led spy mission.

Soon after the film began streaming, social media platforms were flooded with complaints alleging censorship on the Netflix version. Viewers pointed out muted swear words, censored language and the removal of nearly ten minutes of footage, despite the film carrying an ‘A’ certificate.
Several users questioned the logic of censoring an adult-rated film on a streaming platform largely accessed by mature audiences. “You certify the film as A, yet mute and censor words. Everyone watching is over 18. It ruins the raw, natural feel,” one viewer wrote. Another commented, “I was expecting an uncut version, but the curse words are muted just like the theatrical release.” A third user simply asked, “Why are the abuses censored?”
Concerns were also raised about the shortened runtime, with many arguing that trimming around ten minutes may have disrupted the film’s narrative flow. “Why have you cut 10 minutes?” read one post.
Dhurandhar, inspired by real-life incidents such as the IC-814 hijacking and the 2001 Parliament attack, drew attention for its intense action sequences and politically charged storyline involving a covert operation against a terror network in Pakistan.

Despite the criticism surrounding its OTT version, the film continues to perform strongly in its eighth week since release and remains at the centre of ongoing debates over censorship norms and content regulation on streaming platforms.
Meanwhile, a sequel to the blockbuster is scheduled for a theatrical release on March 19, where it will clash at the box office with Yash’s Toxic: A Fairytale for Grownups.
