‘It Was Scripted’: Sanjay Dutt Clarifies ‘No Peace in India’ Remark After Controversy
Bollywood actor Sanjay Dutt has clarified his recent “I cant feel that peace anymore in India” remark, saying the comments were made as part of a scripted conversation and were never intended to hurt or offend anyone.
The 67-year-old actor faced criticism on social media after a clip from his appearance on Shekhar Sumans Shekhar Tonite show surfaced online. During the conversation, Dutt said, “There should be peace, I cant feel that peace anymore in India.”
Following the backlash, Dutt issued a clarification on Sunday, stressing that he did not intend to disrespect the sentiments of any individual, community or institution.
“I would like to clarify that it was never my intention to hurt, offend, or disrespect the sentiments of any individual, community, or institution. My remarks were made in the context of a scripted conversation intended to be light-hearted and humorous,” Dutt said.
The actor explained that the comments were intended in the spirit of the humour and satire associated with his Munna Bhai films, particularly the idea of “Gandhigiri”.
“The spirit behind them was similar to the humour and satire seen in films like Munna Bhai, particularly the concept of Gandhigiri, which was intended to convey a message of love, warmth, togetherness, and goodwill. Unfortunately, my words were interpreted outside of that intended context,” he added.
What Did Sanjay Dutt Say on the Show?
During his appearance on the show, Dutt adopted his popular “Munnabhai” persona while discussing what he would change in the country if he became the Prime Minister.
He said he would not spend most of his time outside India and would focus on promoting brotherhood. He also said that instead of putting up his own photographs, he would display pictures of Mahatma Gandhi across the country.
